Scheduling and Timetables

The EnaCast programming grid defines when each show is broadcast and recorded. Each entry in the grid determines the day, start time, and duration, and from this information the system automates recording, publishing, and display on the website.

A regular schedule defines a recurring weekly broadcast. It is configured by specifying:

  • Day of the week (Monday, Tuesday, etc.)
  • Start time (in the station’s timezone)
  • Duration of the show

If a show airs on multiple days per week, you must create one schedule for each day. For example, a Monday-to-Friday show requires five schedules.

Each schedule can optionally have a date range for validity:

  • Start date: the schedule won’t activate before this date
  • End date: the schedule stops being active after this date

This is useful for:

  • Seasonal shows: that only air between September and June, for example
  • New shows: that start from a specific date
  • Shows that end: to stop recording without removing the show from the system

When creating a schedule, you can mark it as a rerun. A rerun indicates that previously recorded content is being re-broadcast at that time — it’s not new content.

Reruns are not recorded. The system skips them for automatic recording, but still shows them in the programming grid on the website so listeners know what’s airing.

Example

A show airs on Wednesdays at 10:00 (new content) and is rerun on Saturdays at 15:00. You would configure:

  • Wednesday 10:00 — regular schedule → gets recorded
  • Saturday 15:00 — marked as rerun → not recorded, but shown in the grid

A special broadcast is a one-off transmission that doesn’t follow the regular weekly pattern. It’s used for unique events like sports broadcasts, holiday specials, or extraordinary interviews.

Unlike regular schedules (which are defined by day of the week), a special broadcast is configured with:

  • Exact start date and time
  • Exact end date and time
  • Show it belongs to

Special broadcasts have priority over regular schedules. If a special broadcast overlaps with a regular schedule, the system:

  1. Records the special broadcast
  2. Pauses the regular schedule’s recording for that period

When the special broadcast ends, regular schedules resume as normal.

If two schedules overlap in time, the system handles them as follows:

  • Two regular schedules: both will record simultaneously, but since they capture the same audio stream, they will produce duplicate recordings. It’s recommended to avoid overlaps between regular schedules.
  • Special broadcast + regular schedule: the special broadcast always takes priority. The regular schedule is not recorded while the special broadcast is active.
  • Two special broadcasts: can be recorded simultaneously if they belong to different shows.
  1. Go to the admin panel at enacast.com/admin.
  2. Navigate to the show’s profile page.
  3. In the Schedules section, click “Add schedule”.
  4. Enter the day of the week, start time, and duration.
  5. If it’s a rerun, check the Rerun checkbox.
  6. Optionally, set the start and end dates for the schedule.
  7. Save your changes.

For special broadcasts, the process is similar, but instead of selecting a day of the week, you enter the exact start and end date and time.
