Audio Editor

EnaCast includes a visual audio editor that lets you trim episodes directly from EnaCast Studio. To open it, open the episode from Episodes (under Content in the sidebar) and click Audio / Markers. The editor shows the audio in two views, an overview and a detail view, and lets you define precisely where the useful content of the episode starts and ends.

The Two Views of the Audio

When you open the audio editor of an episode, the audio is shown twice:

• “Whole episode” (top): the entire recording in a single width, whether it lasts 20 minutes or 6 hours. The two trim handles, green and red, live here and are always in view, together with a blue box showing which part the detail view is displaying. Click anywhere to move the playhead there.
• “Detail” (below): a time window you choose with the “Whole / 10m / 5m / 2m / 1m / 30s / 10s” buttons. It is for placing the playhead precisely: dragging on it moves the playhead and never creates or changes anything.

Under each view there is a lane with one orange tick per marker. On the waveform itself a marker is only a thin line, so the audio reads just as well with 30 markers as with none.

Trimming an Episode

Trimming removes the unwanted parts of the audio, such as silences, filler music or content before the show.

1. Open the audio editor of the episode you want to trim

2. Set the start point: on “Whole episode”, drag the green handle to where the episode should begin. You can also place the playhead on the exact spot and press “Mark” next to “Start Point” in the “Cut Points” card

3. Set the end point: do the same with the red handle

4. Check the values: the map header (“Keep from … to …”) and the “Cut Points” card show the same thing in numbers, with the “Kept” / “Trimmed” summary. You can also type the exact time there

5. Preview the result by listening to the audio between the selected points

6. Confirm the trim with “Cut & Save” to generate the trimmed version

Note

The two handles must stay at least 10 seconds apart: an episode cannot be shorter than that.

Colors

The editor uses colors to indicate the different areas of the audio:

Color	Meaning
Green	Trim start handle. Everything before it will be removed
Red	Trim end handle. Everything after it will be removed
Grey	Areas of the map that the trim will remove
Blue	The box showing the window displayed in the “Detail” view
Orange	Markers of thematic sections within the episode

Tip

If the AI has analyzed the episode, the AI-suggested start and end points will appear as a reference. You can adjust them manually if needed.

The Original Audio Is Always Preserved

Important

Trimming never modifies the original audio. EnaCast always preserves the complete original recording and creates a trimmed copy that is the one published. If you make a mistake when trimming, you can always re-trim from the original audio.

Re-Trimming an Episode

If after trimming you’re not satisfied with the result, you can re-trim the episode:

1. Open the audio editor for the already-trimmed episode
2. The cut points are reset on the complete original audio
3. Define the new start and end points
4. Confirm the new trim

Note

When re-trimming, the previous trimmed version is replaced by the new one. Markers are automatically adjusted to the new positions.

Markers

Markers divide the episode into thematic sections, making navigation easier for listeners. A marker is a position: in the editor it appears as an orange tick under each view and in the “Markers” list, sorted by time. Hovering a row in the list highlights its tick, and vice versa; the name shows when you hover the tick.

Creating Markers

You can create markers in two ways:

• Automatically: the AI generates thematic section markers when it transcribes the episode with full transcription
• Manually: place the playhead where the section starts and press the orange “Add at 00:40:55” button (the button says where it will add it) or the M key. The form opens with the time already filled in

For each marker you can define:

• Name: the section title (for example, “Interview with the mayor”)
• Description: a short text about the content of that section
• Position: the exact second where the section starts. Each section runs until the next marker; the form states it as “Runs until the next marker”
• Image (optional)
• Regular section: shown only when the program has active regular sections. It links the marker to one of them so it appears on the section’s public page; None removes the link

To edit or delete a marker, use the icons that appear on its row in the list.

If a section ends after the next one has already started (for example, after moving a marker’s start), its row shows an amber button with a time: that is where the next section starts. Hovering it explains where the section ends now; one click makes the section end right where the next one begins.

Caution

Dragging on the waveform no longer creates markers (that is how it worked before September 2026): that gesture now only moves the playhead.

Long Episodes

In council meetings and shows lasting several hours there are three ways to reach any point, equally fast however long the recording is:

• Drag the blue box along “Whole episode”: the “Detail” view follows it and, when you release, the playhead is inside the window
• “Previous marker” / “Next marker” (, and . keys) to jump from section to section
• “Go to”: type a time (mm:ss, hh:mm:ss or seconds) and press Enter

Then use the ”10s” or ”30s” window for the final adjustment.

Episodes Edited in the Audio Studio

If the episode’s audio was replaced from the Audio studio (early access), the episode shows Edited in the studio in the episode list and on its page, and the audio editor says so:

• The waveform shows the edited audio, not the original recording.
• You can add and move markers and save them as usual.
• Trimming is refused: the edited audio is changed in its audio studio project. This way a trim never undoes the edit made in the studio.

Episodes with Replaced Audio

If you replaced the audio of an existing episode, with Upload MP3 or Extract from 24h in its form, the episode shows Audio replaced in the episode list and on its page. The audio editor then works on that new audio:

• The waveform shows the audio you put in, not the original recording. The original recording is still kept.
• You can add and move markers and save them as usual. The markers the episode already had stay at the same second: check that they are still in the right place.
• Trimming is refused. If the clip is not the right one, replace the audio again with the right clip (for example, another range in Extract from 24h).
• The episode’s existing transcript and AI analysis belong to the previous audio and are not redone automatically.

Automatic Trimming

EnaCast can automatically trim episodes using artificial intelligence. If the program has this option enabled, the AI analyzes the audio, detects where the real content starts and ends, and trims the episode without manual intervention.

Recommended Workflow

1. Listen briefly to the beginning and end of the episode to locate the useful content

2. Place the handles, green (start) and red (end), on “Whole episode”

3. Narrow the “Detail” window (for example ”30s”) around each cut point and preview a few seconds to verify

4. Add markers at the main topic changes: playhead on the spot, then “Add at …”

5. Confirm with “Cut & Save” (or “Save Markers” if you only changed markers)

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I Undo a Trim?

There is no “undo” button, but since the original audio is always preserved, you can re-trim the episode at any time with new cut points. The exception is episodes edited in the audio studio or with replaced audio: those cannot be trimmed.

Is Trimming Instant?

Trimming is processed in the background and can take from a few seconds to a couple of minutes, depending on the episode duration.

Does Trimming Affect the RSS Feed?

Yes. Once trimmed, the version published on the RSS feed and website is the trimmed version. Listeners who download the episode will get the trimmed version.

Can I Trim an Episode That Was Automatically Trimmed?

Yes. You can manually adjust the cut points of an episode that was trimmed by the AI. The editor will show you the complete original audio so you can define the new points.
