AI Studio (beta)

AI Studio automatically creates episodes in a language your station does not broadcast in, from its own content: the news you publish and the transcriptions of your programmes. For example, a station that broadcasts in Catalan can offer its English- or German-speaking neighbours a weekly round-up of what happened in town, without anyone having to record it.

The episodes are generated, and it is important to say so plainly:

  • An AI writes the script directly in the chosen language. It is not a translation: the text is written in that language from the start.
  • Synthetic voices read it: two hosts in conversation, or a single narrator.
  • The episode is filed in the programme of your station that you choose, like any other episode.
  • Stations on the Pro plan (5 hours of insights a day). See Transcriptions and AI Insights.
  • During the beta, access is by invitation and it is managed by the station’s admins.

In the menu, the AI Studio entry opens the AI Studio page, with your station’s configurations and this week’s usage.

Each configuration is a recurring generated show: for example, “English weekly round-up”. A station can have several (a weekly round-up in English and a monthly one in German, for example).

  1. In AI Studio, click New configuration.
  2. Fill in the fields (see the table).
  3. Save. The configuration’s card shows whether it is Active, the date of the next run (Next: …) and the target programme.
FieldWhat it does
NameJust for you, to recognise the configuration.
Target programmeThe programme the generated episodes are filed under. It can be an existing programme or a new one created for it (see Registering a programme).
LanguageEnglish, German, Spanish, French or Catalan. Scripts are written in this language, not translated into it.
FormatConversation between two hosts or Single narrator.
First voice / Second voiceEach language has two voices with a native accent: one female and one male. When you change the language, the voices adjust automatically. With Single narrator you only choose the first one.
Use news articlesIncludes the news you published in the period.
Use transcripts from these programmesIncludes what was said in the programmes you choose. Only programmes with transcription enabled contribute.
FrequencyDaily, Weekly or Monthly (see Scheduling).
Day of week / Day of monthDepending on the frequency.
Episode lengthAbout 3 minutes, About 5 minutes or About 10 minutes. A target, not an exact length.
PublishingDuring the beta it is fixed to Draft — review first (see Reviewing and publishing).
Custom instructionsOptional editorial guidance, up to 4,000 characters (see below).

While you edit, the form works out how many minutes a week this configuration and the others will use together, and warns you if they go over the weekly allowance (see Generated audio minutes).

Use them to steer the tone and the content, for example: “Mention the town’s weekly market. Keep a warm, informal tone.” They are editorial guidance only: they cannot change the language, the sources or the format, and they cannot remove the notice that the episode was made with AI.

  • Daily: every day.
  • Weekly: on the day of the week you choose.
  • Monthly: on the day of the month you choose, from 1 to 28 (up to 28 so that it runs every month).

Each configuration runs at 01:00 in your radio’s time zone.

To stop it without deleting it, click Pause on its card (it becomes Paused); Activate starts it again. If you delete a configuration, the episodes it already created are kept.

Each episode is written only from your station’s content for the period it covers:

  • the news published, if you ticked Use news articles;
  • the transcriptions of the programmes chosen in Use transcripts from these programmes.

The period starts at the previous episode (the last day, week or month, depending on the frequency). If a run fails, that period’s content is used by the next one.

During the beta, every generated episode is saved as a draft (hidden): it does not appear on the website or in the RSS feed until you publish it.

  1. On the configuration’s card, click Scripts. You will see each run with its status; Show script shows the text and View episode opens the episode that was created.
  2. Listen to the episode and read the script. Check names, figures and dates.
  3. If it is fine, click Show on the episode page (or, in Episodes, Hidden tab, select it and use the Show action).

Once published, the episode appears on the programme page, in its RSS feed and in the podcast apps that follow that feed, like any other episode.

Each configuration’s card shows the Target programme with two links: View them in ramen (that programme’s episode list in EnaCast Studio) and View them on the public site (the programme’s page on your website). If the target programme is hidden, it is not in the site’s menus or lists; it is reachable only through the link.

On the Scripts page, Generate script now starts a run without waiting for the schedule: the script appears in under a minute and the episode follows. The configuration must be Active. This generation also counts against the week’s minutes.

AI Studio is included in the Pro plan at no extra cost, with an allowance of 24 minutes of generated audio a week per station.

  • The Generated audio this week meter on the page shows the minutes used and available.
  • The allowance resets every Monday and unused minutes do not carry over.
  • Length is approximate: each episode’s real minutes are counted, and it may come out slightly longer or shorter than the target.
  • Before generating, the chosen length is reserved. If what is left of the week is not enough, the run is skipped.
  • It is separate from the daily transcription budget: generated episodes do not use transcription hours.
ExampleMinutes a weekFits?
One weekly episode of about 5 minutes5Yes
Four weekly shows of about 5 minutes (for example, in four languages)20Yes
Two weekly shows of about 10 minutes20Yes
One daily episode of about 5 minutes35No

A monthly episode only uses minutes in the week it is generated.

On the Scripts page, each run shows its status:

StatusWhat it means
Skipped — quiet periodThere were no news or transcriptions in the period. No episode is created and no minutes are used.
Skipped — no minutes leftNot enough minutes were left this week. That period’s content is included in the next scheduled run (up to twice the usual period).
FailedSomething went wrong while generating it. The reserved minutes are given back.
CompletedThe episode was created in the target programme.

While it works, a run goes through Queued, Gathering sources, Writing script, Script ready and Assembling episode.

Every generated episode says it was made with artificial intelligence, in three places:

  • In the audio: at the end, the voices say that the episode was written and voiced with AI from the station’s news and programmes.
  • In the description: a line at the end says so. It stays on the website, in the RSS feed and in podcast apps, even if you edit the description.
  • On the public site: the episode carries a Generated with AI label.

Custom instructions cannot remove this notice.

  • Languages: English, German, Spanish, French and Catalan.
  • Not fact-checked journalism: episodes are based on your station’s content, but nobody checks the facts independently and they can contain errors. Review each episode before publishing it.
  • Only your content: the AI does not look for information beyond your news and programmes. If a week has little content, the episode will be short or will not be generated.
  • Approximate length: an episode lasts about as long as you choose, not exactly.
  • Beta: during the beta episodes are always saved as drafts, and access is by invitation.
