Streaming Configuration

For EnaCast to broadcast live and automatically record your shows, your station’s audio must reach the streaming server. This guide explains how to configure the connection from the admin panel.

The audio flow in EnaCast follows this diagram:

Your studio (microphone / mixing console)
Broadcast software (BUTT / EdCast)
Streaming server (Icecast)
├──▶ Live listeners (web / apps)
└──▶ Automatic episode recording

The broadcast software (such as BUTT or EdCast) captures audio from your equipment and sends it to the EnaCast streaming server, which uses Icecast technology. From there, the audio is distributed to listeners and simultaneously recorded according to the programming schedule.

Each station has its own streaming server connection details, which you’ll need to configure your broadcast software. These details are available in the admin panel:

ParameterDescriptionExample
Server (host)Streaming server addressstream.enacast-cloud.com
PortConnection port8000
Mount pointYour stream’s identifier/mystation
UsernameConnection username (Icecast source)source
PasswordConnection password(provided by support)

EnaCast is compatible with any software that supports the Icecast protocol. The two most common options are:

BUTT is the recommended option. It’s free, simple, and compatible with Windows, macOS, and Linux.

To configure it, follow the BUTT configuration guide.

EdCast is an alternative for Windows. It requires running as administrator on Windows 10 and later.

To configure it, follow the EdCast configuration guide.

From the admin panel you can view and manage your station’s streaming configuration:

  • Username: the username for the Icecast source connection (usually source)
  • Password: the password you need to enter in your broadcast software

These details are entered in your broadcast software’s configuration (BUTT, EdCast, or other compatible software).

Each station has a maximum concurrent listener limit configured in its profile. This limit defines how many people can listen to the live stream at the same time.

If you need to increase the limit for a special event, contact the support team.

Each station can have one or more streams configured, each with a different audio quality (bitrate). For example:

  • Standard stream: 128 kbps — standard quality for most stations
  • High quality stream: 192 or 320 kbps — for stations requiring higher fidelity

If your station uses broadcast equipment managed by EnaCast (with a dedicated connection), the panel displays the broadcast equipment’s IP address. This is technical information managed by the support team — you don’t need to modify it.

To check that your broadcast is reaching the server correctly:

  1. Open your broadcast software (BUTT or EdCast) and press Connect / Play.
  2. Verify that the software shows Connected status and the audio levels are moving.
  3. Open your station’s website and check that you can hear the live audio.
  4. If the broadcast isn’t working, review the connection details and make sure your firewall isn’t blocking the connection.

Connection problems

If you can’t connect, check:

  • That the server, port, mount point, username, and password are correct
  • That your internet connection is stable (wired connection recommended, not wifi)
  • That no firewall or antivirus is blocking the outgoing connection
  • That no other software is broadcasting to the same stream at the same time

Can I Broadcast From Multiple Devices at Once?

Section titled “Can I Broadcast From Multiple Devices at Once?”

No. Only one device can be connected to an Icecast stream at a time. If a second device tries to connect, the connection will be rejected.

Do I Need to Be Broadcasting for Shows to Be Recorded?

Section titled “Do I Need to Be Broadcasting for Shows to Be Recorded?”

Yes. Automatic recording captures audio from the live stream. If you’re not broadcasting, there’s no signal to record and the episode will be empty.

Credentials are managed by the support team. If you need to change them, contact us.

EnaCast works with MP3 audio format. Your broadcast software must be configured to send audio in MP3 format (LAME codec). Most default configurations already use this format.
