Common Mistakes

This guide covers the most common mistakes made by EnaCast users and how to avoid them. If something is not working as expected, the solution is likely here.

Publishing Without Trimming: The 30-Minute Wait

Section titled “Publishing Without Trimming: The 30-Minute Wait”

The most frequent mistake

When an episode is not trimmed (neither manually nor automatically), EnaCast waits 30 minutes before publishing it on the website and RSS feed. This wait time is designed to give the editor time to review it.

In contrast, a trimmed episode is published in just 5 minutes.

How to avoid it:

  • Enable automatic trimming on programs where you want fast publication. The AI will detect the start and end of the content and trim the episode automatically
  • If you prefer to trim manually, do so as soon as possible after the recording ends
  • Remember that the difference between publishing in 5 minutes or 30 minutes depends solely on whether the episode has been trimmed

A very common mistake is enabling holiday mode before a break and forgetting to disable it when returning.

Consequences:

  • No programs are recorded automatically
  • No new episodes are generated
  • The website schedule appears empty or outdated

How to avoid it:

  • If you set start and end dates when configuring holiday mode, EnaCast will disable it automatically
  • Set a reminder in your calendar for the day you return
  • Check the status indicator in the admin panel: if you see the “on holiday” notice, disable it

When two programs have overlapping schedules, EnaCast will record both, but the result can be confusing:

  • Both episodes will contain the same audio during the overlap period
  • On the website, the player may show contradictory information about which program is on air

How to avoid it:

  • Review the program schedule in the weekly view to detect overlaps
  • Make sure the end time of one program matches exactly with the start time of the next
  • Take into account programs with special or one-off schedules

Automatic transcription is designed for spoken content. If you enable it on a purely musical program:

  • Daily transcription budget will be consumed without producing useful results
  • AI insights (title, summary, tags) will be irrelevant or incorrect
  • Section markers will not make sense

How to avoid it:

  • Disable transcription on music programs or non-spoken content
  • If a program mixes music and spoken content, consider using partial transcription (15 or 30 minutes) to capture only the spoken part at the start

The glossary significantly improves transcription quality, but many stations leave it empty.

Consequences:

  • Local people’s names appear incorrectly transcribed
  • Acronyms and abbreviations are interpreted as common words
  • Local place names are confused with similar ones

How to avoid it:

  • Add the names of presenters, local politicians and regular figures to the glossary
  • Include acronyms of institutions and organisations in your area
  • Add local place names that could be confused

Not Reviewing Episodes in the First Few Days

Section titled “Not Reviewing Episodes in the First Few Days”

The first episodes after setting up a new program are the most important to review:

  • They allow you to verify that recording is working correctly
  • They help you adjust the transcription level
  • They help identify audio issues (volume, silences, noise)

What to review:

  • That the audio is recorded in full (from the start to the end of the program)
  • That the transcription is reasonably accurate
  • That the automatic trim points (if enabled) are correct

EnaCast uses the time zone configured in the station settings for programming schedules. If this time zone does not match the actual one:

  • Programs will be recorded at incorrect times
  • The schedule will show shifted times
  • Daylight saving time changes can cause discrepancies

How to avoid it:

  • Verify that the time zone in the station settings is correct
  • After a clock change (summer/winter), check that the schedules are still correct

Many editors do not know that the news editor includes AI tools for:

  • Regenerating titles and summaries
  • Generating alternative titles
  • Extracting notable quotes
  • Detecting thematic sections

These tools can save you a great deal of time in daily editing.
